Goodfair, the online thrift store sending you bundled mystery boxes, has a compelling & exciting business model. You choose a bundle (like a set of two corduroy long sleeve button down shirts) and they’ll pick out the specific items and ship them to you. You don’t know what exactly you’re going to receive before you get it. It’s all part of the fun.
And while most Goodfair customers seem to be pleased with their orders, there is definitely a subset of customers who are not happy with the contents of their mystery box. This is to be expected because ultimately, you can’t make everyone happy.
But what do you do if you’re not happy with your Goodfair order? The good news is that Goodfair does have a return policy – kind of.
The bad news is that actual “returns” – as in you return the item and get your money back – is limited to only shoes. Yes, shoes. That’s it. So if you bought those corduroy button downs I referenced earlier, you can’t return those.
What you can do however, is give them a “Second Chance.” It works like this: you pay another $4 for shipping (in the US, only $1 if you’re in Canada), and they will send you out another mystery box with new items to replace your original order. And you get to keep the original items (that you don’t want).
The fine print is that you need to make the replacement order within 14 days of receiving your original order. And you are limited to a replacement once per order, and no more than 3 times in a calendar year.
It’s really not a bad policy. It aligns with their company mission of keeping clothes in use and out of warehouses or inefficient recycling plants, and gives you (and them) a second chance to be happy with your order.

Overall, we think that like their business model, the Goodfair “return” policy is compelling. Mix that with their generally affordable bundles, and it makes a lot of sense to at least give it a try. After all, you’ll always have a second chance.
