Real Reviews: ThredUp

I want to start this review off by saying that after my first order from thredUp arrived, I went into work the next day and told everyone that would listen about this site. As soon as I saw this Topshop shirt (pictured above), I knew that it would be a while before it fell out of my wardrobe rotation, and I wasn’t wrong!

Now, let’s start back at the beginning…

The site

I love this site because it doesn’t seem like you’re shopping second hand, at all. All the clothes are professionally photographed and thoroughly described, eliminating any ambiguity you might encounter on other online thrift stores.
My favorite part of the product description, is the condition report, e.g. “This item is in excellent condition. You might mistake it for brand new!”. Not only does this give me peace of mind that the quality of my item has been objectively evaluated, but I like how the message is delivered in a personable way. I know that it’s the trendy thing to do now, companies delivering messages in a less formal and corporate way, but it works on me.

The prices

Apart from the condition report, the only way you’ll be able to tell that you’re shopping second hand, is the price. From high street to high end, thredUp has up to 90% off (yes, 90%) brands from J Crew to Coach.
The discounts don’t stop there. When I placed my first order they had 40% off everything and now when I visit the site they give me a code for 15% off because they “miss me” – aw (another example of me being suckered in by the personable language).

Quality

When they say, “you might mistake it for brand new”, they mean it. The items that I ordered could have been straight from the store. I’m not entirely sure whether I got lucky or whether they do their due diligence when quality checking the inventory. Either way, I’m over the moon with my purchases. If you would prefer not to risk it, there is even a ‘Brand new with tags’ option!

Selection

Like in all thrift stores, online or not, for every gem there’s a multitude of coal to get through. ThredUp makes it easy for you to sift out the items that aren’t quite to your taste and just leave the good stuff. With an inventory as vast as theirs, I found that the best way to navigate the gold mine was to filter by size, style and brand.

Extra touches

I lovvvved the packaging that thredUp sent my items in. They came in a cute box, wrapped up in polka dot tissue paper (in theme with the website). In my honest opinion, the little touches and attention to detail that thredUp provides throughout their shopping experience surpasses even full-price retailers.

Here are the gems I found at thredUp:

Topshop Plaid Shirt – $9
Cameo Faux Leather Skirt – $10.30
